For the Sugar Plums 2009 [Dec. 22nd, 2009|10:13 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , , , , ]
[Current Funk |chipperholly jolly]
[Current Beat |Moka Only - Its Neva Late]

So back in 2007 I attempted to initiate a project I named "For the Sugar Plums". The idea was pretty straightforward: spin a mix of eclectic holiday music to get people in the Christmas spirit. The intent was to carry this out on an annual basis... After the first attempt, however, I immediately became aware of the fact that extended mixes just weren't meant to be carried out entirely in GarageBand. Luckily, I was able to obtain my own set of turntables between now and then. And so, two years later, I return with a professional mix, (the first of what I hope will be many), to get you feeling that warm holly jolly.

Introducing For the Sugar Plums 2009... just in time for the big day, baby.

This year I ended up taking a hip-hop/rap, dope beat angle on Christmas. There are some golden oldies, some fresh releases and even some classic reworkings. Yes, For the Sugar Plums 2009 is a moist, plump, throbbing Christmas fruitcake of hip hop listening goodness. So turn off Mariah Carey's number one hit Christmas single already, gather 'round the fireplace, grab a steamin' cup of hot chocolate and turn it up.

Dumb I Sound [Sep. 10th, 2009|09:41 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , ]
[Current Funk |okayokay]
[Current Beat |Matéo - C'est Trés Bon]

You know what a crystal moment for me is? Finding that certain song you've been searching for after weeks, or months beat journeying. You know... 'cause maybe you'll hear a song played on the radio, or in a mix, and you won't know what the song is or how to acquire it. When you finally get that song pumpin' through your headphones it's just straight up magic. Seriously, it's a beautiful fillin' (as Slim Thug would say).

I heard this song during Diplo's Essential Mix on da BBC Radio 1 and practically plotzed. But some dip got the tracklist all wrong and I spent a lot of time searching for a song that wasn't even what I was lookin' for! But anywhey, I found it. I even did up a mix with this jam in it and recorded it in video form. But you'll have to befriend me on Facebook for that mess. Hahahahahahaaaa...

Seriously, though, I ain't ready to put my stuff on YouTube yet. My video mixes and, subsequently, my ego would get torn to ribbons if I were to start posting on YouTube now.

While we're at it, here's a neat little piece of animation I completely forgot about.

The song ain't too shabby either.

...

I'm sorry guys... I'll stop posting YouTube vids to compensate for my obvious lack of art projects.

P.S. Who's got two thumbs and is getting his wisdom teeth taken out tomorrow? This guyyy.

"District Niner" or "District 9, So Damn Fine" [Aug. 19th, 2009|11:49 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , , , ]
[Current Funk |thirstythirsty]
[Current Beat |Switch - A Bit Patchy]

Indeed friends. I got around to seeing District 9 the other day. Damn good movie, I gotta say. Really, in this day and age a film like this is a true gem. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it and explore it's themes, few movies in the last couple of years have moved me to do this. Seriously. I saw The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard almost a week ago and I wanted to do nothing but forget about it the moment I stepped out of the theater (and I'm a big fan of Jeremy Piven).

I'm not saying this film stands up to the classics, I'm saying that given modern "values" in movie making, this film is amazing. Get up in that cut already.

Click for fan art and more in-depth movie review. (Spoiler alert.) )

If you're remotely interested in what I've been up to...

Today I bought The Simpsons Season 12. Am I the only one who still thinks The Simpsons was still dope at this point? Yeah it doesn't have as many heartfelt moments as the previous seasons, but the humor was still spot on! Seriously!

Oh, and I also went on a freakin' music buying spree today. I have a concept for a brand new mix thought out and I hope to get working on it soon. You guys'll dig it, you will!

Just postin' with a lowdown.

I'll be in Vegas all week this week, so I probably won't have a chance to post. I'm bringing my laptop, but I don't think I'll have the time to use it much. It's my vacation!

So have a good one! I'll be back late afternoon on Saturday, maybe with some pics or some vacation sketches. We'll see. Until then... Vegas baby, Vegas!!!

Shadow Jugglers Throw Down - The Re-Recording [Jul. 10th, 2009|08:00 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , ]
[Current Funk |lethargiclethargic]
[Current Beat |1000names - Ice Is the Silent Language]

I don't know if you've actually been waiting for it, but here it is! My first professionally made, downloadable mix! If you were able to tune into my radio broadcast debut on Saturday, June 27th many thanks! I have now re-recorded that mix, and chocked it full of extra gidgets, gadgets and hoo-dads. In other words, this mix adds a whole new level to what I performed live. It has an improved sound quality, added songs and some unexpected enhancements. Dig it!

The Shadow Jugglers Throw Down is a professional mix of the eclectic electronic. One single genre can't really describe what this mix embodies. The Shadow Jugglers Throw Down spans all kinds of genres, some of which I can't even grasp. But there's straight hip hop, trip hop, rap, MASHUP, big beat, alternative, experimental, b-boy beat, electro, downtempo and more. It's a throw down in sound! (That sounded a lot cooler in my head...)

Throw Down? I Might! [Jun. 26th, 2009|01:50 am]
[Tags|, , , , , , ]
[Current Funk |restlessrestless]
[Current Beat |Architeq - Into the Cosmos]

Realllly should've posted this sooner...

Yup yup. I'm doing a 45 minute mix live on the wheels of steel this Saturday! I can't exactly say when between 7 and 9... but I personally wouldn't want to miss a minute of the show. Shadow Jugglers is a weekly radio show based on CiTR Radio in Vancouver, B.C. that covers a wide range of electronic, club and world music genres such as Dub/Reggae, Hip Hop, Dubstep/Grime, Funk, Jungle/Drum & Bass, Breakbeat and Breakcore. It's sure to be off all kinds of hooks, chains, and any other form of shackle.

I'm not exactly sure how these broadcast deals work... but I'm pretty sure you can listen online, regardless of where you live. And if that doesn't work out for you, the whole show will be made available for download as a Podcast! Just make sure to check out http://shadowjugglers.com

Hope you get the chance to tune in! :D

P.S. My mood emoticon doesn't effectively portray my mannerism at the moment. It's more like the eyes-wide-open kind of restless for me right now.

P.P.S. Had my very last day of high school today. Wowww...

Bomb Y'all Pastel Poets Belly Up [Feb. 5th, 2009|09:13 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , , ]
[Current Funk |bouncybouncy]
[Current Beat |Princess Toadstool - FLYamSAM]

(I'll tell you what.)

Sorry for not posting in awhile... I have lots to say... but I didn't really want to post without including some art as well. I mean this is my art blog... I'm not really about the all-text posts.

So first, an assignment from art class:

It's a pastel rendition of an impressionist painting. I believe this one was done by a member of the Group of Seven. If anyone knows the name of the painting or the artist it'd be greatly appreciated. (I know, I should have done the research before starting...)

Anyways, I learned that I hate working with pastels. I'm sorry, I just do. They're messy, blending colours can be iffy and I'm not a fan of the overall pastel look. It's just personal preference... I dunno. Long story short, this wasn't the most enjoyable art project for me. I'm posting it though, to show that I dared that mess! I've done a lot of other art projects that have proven more enjoyable... I just haven't had chances to capture them digitally...

Moving on to more exciting business though! I got accepted into the SWEAT program for 2009! It's a work experience/day camp program that runs at the Art Institute of Vancouver right after Spring Break. So come that time I'll be getting some pro tips on movie making!

I also applied for the Artist Apprenticeship Project at my local art gallery awhile back and just recently received confirmation! So every Friday until May-ish I'll be working with a bunch of other students to develop an art exhibit for the public! Deffs lookin' forward to it, and I'll keep you guys posted!

A couple weeks back I completed my first professional mix! I had my last DJ class with my instructor and he gave me the opportunity to work out and record a legit mix. By legit I mean actually done on turntables... with actual beat matching, cross-fading, etc. I'm really excited about it, the MP3 is all ready to go and everything. Only problem is I don't have a DJ name... and I'd really like one before I go any further... >.<

Finally, our school talent show is coming up in the beginning of March. I worked with friends and was able to put two pieces together for the auditions, which were at the beginning of the week. I'm feelin' jazzed on how they went, and I'm hittin' up the results with high hopes tomorrow!

So yeah, lots has been going on. I'm all hopped up on purple!

Rock N' Roll Dream [Nov. 30th, 2008|12:01 am]
[Tags|, , , , , ]
[Current Funk |chipperchipper]
[Current Beat |Slew Test 2 - Kid Koala]

AC/DC flat out rocked on Friday night. 'Nuff said. They came, they put on for the city, they rocked to the very core. The crowd came for pure, bone fide rock n' roll and AC/DC delivered.

The experience was truly stunning though. I mean, I was raised on AC/DC. My friends and I have always talked about them going on tour again, ever since we were in high school. They just jammed out like they always have on Friday night, I couldn't have asked for any more.

Also: I am proud to say that my mix, The Walking Nightmare 2008, has reached over 100 downloads! 100!!! Seriously, I didn't see that coming! Much thanks to you if you downloaded it. If you haven't yet, it's still available by clicking the link above.

Also also: Happy Birthday Dad! Technically, your Birthday was yesterday but uh... yeah. Have a good one.
