Thought the ol' wisdom teeth pull killed me eh? Hhahahahaaaa noooooo... I'm still kickin'.

Look! I anthropomorphized my Wandering Albatross character! What an atrocity! But remember that albatross I was drawin' all those months ago? Yeah he's back, and he's got a spiffy new shirt for the office!

Hey remember this old Monty Python skit?

<lj-embed id="16" />

Dumb I Sound

You know what a crystal moment for me is? Finding that certain song you've been searching for after weeks, or months beat journeying. You know... 'cause maybe you'll hear a song played on the radio, or in a mix, and you won't know what the song is or how to acquire it. When you finally get that song pumpin' through your headphones it's just straight up magic. Seriously, it's a beautiful fillin' (as Slim Thug would say).

<lj-embed id="14" />

I heard this song during Diplo's Essential Mix on da BBC Radio 1 and practically plotzed. But some dip got the tracklist all wrong and I spent a lot of time searching for a song that wasn't even what I was lookin' for! But anywhey, I found it. I even did up a mix with this jam in it and recorded it in video form. But you'll have to befriend me on Facebook for that mess. Hahahahahahaaaa...

Seriously, though, I ain't ready to put my stuff on YouTube yet. My video mixes and, subsequently, my ego would get torn to ribbons if I were to start posting on YouTube now.

While we're at it, here's a neat little piece of animation I completely forgot about.

<lj-embed id="15" />

The song ain't too shabby either.

...

I'm sorry guys... I'll stop posting YouTube vids to compensate for my obvious lack of art projects.

P.S. Who's got two thumbs and is getting his wisdom teeth taken out tomorrow? This guyyy.

My L: F It

Finally got around to buying some new Pigma Micron's today. Here's a couple doodles.

So today was the first of day of school for everyone. But not for this guy. Yeah.

It was weird man. I was walkin' around downtown today while everyone was at school. For the first time in like what, 13 years? I wasn't in school on Sept. 8th. It's times like these when the world really starts to pressure in around me. I'd better check my head.

P.S. I'm listening to the only Lil' Wayne song I'll probably ever enjoy. It samples David Axelrod's "Holy Thursday" which is just beautiful. Lil Wayne's voice doesn't exactly suit the beat, but I appreciate the concept and story behind the rap.

Hm, and yet very few teens would be able to recognize this song. Notice how this song isn't played on the radio too. Hm, funny how that works out. I can bet my bottom dollar that if it was played on the radio, y'all would be askin' the DJ to bump this and turn off that "Lollipop" trash. Yeah. Think about that.

Just Dropped In - To See What Condition My Internet Was In

My Internet's really been droppin' the ball lately... I apologize. It's been on and off for the past two weeks... and when I say on and off I mean one minute things are running smoothly, one minute the Internet starts eating it's own head. Just ridiculous.

Anyways, here is a blind grasp at humor.

And here are sum sketches, 'cause it seems I haven't posted work of such nature in awhile.

Thirdly, I think people fail to realize what a Goddamn masterpiece Daft Punk's "Discovery" is. I'm for real! Easily one of the best albums in the electro/dance genre, but also up there as a generally shattering achievement. I mean sure everyone can recognize "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" and call themselves aware of Daft Punk, but no. They're not. Give "Discovery" a good thorough listening. The French know what they're freakin' doing when it comes to electronic production. "Short Circuit"? "High Times"??? Those tracks will blow your ass out!

P.S. Saw Inglourious Basterds last night. Well done Mr. Tarantino.... well done...

"District Niner" or "District 9, So Damn Fine"

Indeed friends. I got around to seeing District 9 the other day. Damn good movie, I gotta say. Really, in this day and age a film like this is a true gem. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it and explore it's themes, few movies in the last couple of years have moved me to do this. Seriously. I saw The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard almost a week ago and I wanted to do nothing but forget about it the moment I stepped out of the theater (and I'm a big fan of Jeremy Piven).

I'm not saying this film stands up to the classics, I'm saying that given modern "values" in movie making, this film is amazing. Get up in that cut already.

Alas... poor Wikus. This character is the prime example of a tragic character. I haven't found myself so emotionally attached to a movie character in a long time. District 9 portrays a pure and thoughtful character who, after doing no wrong, has everything wrong done to him. We see him deal with the most bizarre fate imaginable and in turn come to terms with himself in the heat of the extraordinary. Because of this we also see how mankind primordially handles something it truly doesn't understand.

Sharlto Copley does a hell of a job too. When Wikus makes his very distressed and heartfelt calls to his wife you hang on to his every word, it's gripping. Mad ups to this guy.

Also: Yes, the third act of District 9 does plummet into full-blown action movie scenarios, but I really don't see how it takes away from the film. District 9 is a slum in South Africa that squirms in it's hostilities. When the shrimp are ordered out and into District 10 you can tell that situations are reaching the tipping point. A couple of gunshots would result in a shootout, methinks. I mean, how else were Christopher and Wikus supposed to retrieve the liquid? You can't just sneak your damn way into MNU when tensions are at their highest. The mechanized battle suit added that sci-fi edge to the action because the movie IS a sci-fi. Plus it's not as if a full-blown war broke out in District 9; I thought the action given was great. And let's be honest here, all big blockbusters are inevitably beefed up with ultra wreckage and the likes these days. Yeah it's sad, but District 9 didn't become a glorified G.I. Joe or Transformers, and I appreciated that dammit.

Really, close to everything worked for me in the movie. The documentary look at things in the beginning, the grit and dirtiness throughout the movie, the comments on racial segregation, the aliens themselves, everything. A guy's appendage morphs into an alien appendage man! Now THAT, is sci-fi. Oh man, and that scene where Wikus passes out at his surprise party. Man even I was feeling sick at that part.

What, are you gonna go watch 500 Days of Summer or sum bull like that? Come on. Go see District 9.

If you're remotely interested in what I've been up to...

Today I bought The Simpsons Season 12. Am I the only one who still thinks The Simpsons was still dope at this point? Yeah it doesn't have as many heartfelt moments as the previous seasons, but the humor was still spot on! Seriously!

Oh, and I also went on a freakin' music buying spree today. I have a concept for a brand new mix thought out and I hope to get working on it soon. You guys'll dig it, you will!

Schwat?

So I went to Warped Tour last Friday. It's not really my scene but I gotta say, I enjoyed myself. I couldn't really get into the death metal... but the ska was bangin'! I don't really listen to the stuff at home but I couldn't help but have a good time when I was there to experience it live. It's such a fun genre of music. You got the bands jumpin' around, the crowd jumpin' around; I appreciated it. Plus I got to meet Big D & the Kids Table after they performed. Pictures and autographs? Oh yea.

But I gotta say... since when did these wiener bands like Forever the Sickest Kids and 3OH!3 become the "in" thing for punk rockers and metal heads alike? They play this sugar-high mess of rock, pop and electro with these wussy-suck lyrics... And yet all around me in the crowd were dudes with mohawks and big honkin' ear lobe discs "rockin'" out. It was horrible.

Anyways uh... art? Right...

I found this old drawing of Needle Man in my art folder that I hadn't finished colouring. So I finished it off today.

...

Yeah... I got nothin'. Sorry guys.

EDIT: I'm gonna plug my latest mix once again. It needs a little love.

Click here to download now! (Courtesy of MediaFire)

Seriously Though, I inCYST

Ahhhhh yeah. You dig that pun? Yeah well as it turns out I have a cyst in my left wrist. A ganglion cyst to be legit. It's a hard lump under the skin, which apparently pertains to the joints and tendons in my wrist. Here's a picture:

It's no big deal as you can see... it was just alarming when it suddenly appeared and I had no idea of what it was. It only appears when I have my hand titled at 90 degrees with my forearm, and it only hurts when I put pressure on my hand. The only thing that worries me is how I got it.

When I went to my doctor she claimed that it was common in older people, usually those who do extensive amounts of writing or drawing. Not only am I not elderly, but I never use utensils with my left hand. However, I did seem to develop the cyst when I was breakdancing... and one of my friends did assure me that one of her friends developed the same deal whilst breakdancing as well.

Incidentally, there was a bboy/bgirl jam on Friday night that I hit up and ended up competing in (Kill Beats Vol. 4).

That mess was painful.

I couldn't draw this comic to save my life!

So yea, I saw Funny People earlier tonight. Despite the whole scenario in my comic, it really wasn't a bad movie. It had it's moments. I really appreciated the new level of drama Apatow was able to portray, and the cameos were great. But cripes, the movie just kept going. It just kept dragging on and on for me... and there were points when I was finding it hard to continue paying attention. My friend was telling me that in an interview Apatow mentioned that the movie is really three different stories put together, and I definitely saw that. But if the movie had stuck with only one main plot line I'm sure it would've ended up better. And I'm sorry, but Adam Sandler's "funny" voices are really a lot less humorous than he thinks they are.

Interestingly enough, I also got a very "Great Gatsby" vibe from the movie. Seriously, Seth Rogen's character really becomes the Nick Carraway of the film, and Adam Sandler becomes Jay Gatsby himself. Some specific scenes in the movie were even reminiscent of what I remember in the novel.

English literature - I CAN APPLY IT IN EVERYDAY SITUATIONS.

Here, have a drawing. Somewhat unfinished... but I wanted to post something before letting another day slip past without a post. Today is BC Day too I believe... might as well mark that.

I enjoy drawing the human face. Particularly the more deshriveled human face. I don't know why... I guess a more weathered face just has those many intricacies to take into account. I don't know where the robot suit came from...

Also, I have found my new favorite YouTube video.

<lj-embed id="9" />

One of my favorite Madlib beats for shurrrrr!

Hot and Bothered

So I got back from Vegas... quite awhile ago. Some GT's were had. I did some shopping, visited the Grand Canyon, saw the Blue Man Group, just about lost my nerves in the heat, you know. I thought I was gonna be able to get right back into dis here journal but that just didn't happen. You'd think during the summer I'd have all this extra time, but such just isn't the case. The heat that's hittin' my neck of the woods is none too encouraging either.

Anyways, let's get back to some brass tacks.

That's right, I'm somewhat ushering in a new era of autobiographical comics.'Cept I haven't been able to complete one every day, and, as you may have guessed, I haven't been able to post each one upon completion.

I started them up again because I want to have enough to go into what I hope will amount to a minicomic. And also... I haven't been drawing enough lately. So I can't say I'll be bringing you these bad boys daily, but they'll show up every once and again.

Anyways, this one's a three-parter! Some tiny old lady actually made me walk her bags all they way up to her house... which ended up being like a 15 minute walk. I mean I thought she just needed me to carry them to her car at Costco, which was like, a minute away. But no, she took me for a very slow and painstaking trip. On the way she gave me her tour of the neighborhood too, which she claimed to have a knack for after years of newspaper delivery. Needless to say, I was hot and bothered.

Just postin' with a lowdown.

I'll be in Vegas all week this week, so I probably won't have a chance to post. I'm bringing my laptop, but I don't think I'll have the time to use it much. It's my vacation!

So have a good one! I'll be back late afternoon on Saturday, maybe with some pics or some vacation sketches. We'll see. Until then... Vegas baby, Vegas!!!

P.S.
Shadow Jugglers Throw Down - The Re-Recording

I don't know if you've actually been waiting for it, but here it is! My first professionally made, downloadable mix! If you were able to tune into my radio broadcast debut on Saturday, June 27th many thanks! I have now re-recorded that mix, and chocked it full of extra gidgets, gadgets and hoo-dads. In other words, this mix adds a whole new level to what I performed live. It has an improved sound quality, added songs and some unexpected enhancements. Dig it!

The Shadow Jugglers Throw Down is a professional mix of the eclectic electronic. One single genre can't really describe what this mix embodies. The Shadow Jugglers Throw Down spans all kinds of genres, some of which I can't even grasp. But there's straight hip hop, trip hop, rap, MASHUP, big beat, alternative, experimental, b-boy beat, electro, downtempo and more. It's a throw down in sound! (That sounded a lot cooler in my head...)

Click here to download now! (Courtesy of MediaFire)

Tracklist:

(Times indicate when each song comes into play.)

[00:00] Warner Bros.
Throw Down? I Might!

Realllly should've posted this sooner...

Yup yup. I'm doing a 45 minute mix live on the wheels of steel this Saturday! I can't exactly say when between 7 and 9... but I personally wouldn't want to miss a minute of the show. Shadow Jugglers is a weekly radio show based on CiTR Radio in Vancouver, B.C. that covers a wide range of electronic, club and world music genres such as Dub/Reggae, Hip Hop, Dubstep/Grime, Funk, Jungle/Drum & Bass, Breakbeat and Breakcore. It's sure to be off all kinds of hooks, chains, and any other form of shackle.

I'm not exactly sure how these broadcast deals work... but I'm pretty sure you can listen online, regardless of where you live. And if that doesn't work out for you, the whole show will be made available for download as a Podcast! Just make sure to check out http://shadowjugglers.com

Hope you get the chance to tune in! :D

P.S. My mood emoticon doesn't effectively portray my mannerism at the moment. It's more like the eyes-wide-open kind of restless for me right now.

P.P.S. Had my very last day of high school today. Wowww...

Bread and a Rolls Royce

Wowwwww... Where have I been? Living life, that's where I've been. That doesn't mean my life doesn't include this journal, it just means that others things have been getting in the way. I've been following the whole "Yes Man" philosophy... in a way... It sounds corny, but I've really just been going with everything that has come my way. Really, there has been very little that I have turned down as of late.

I guess it has just been the concept of graduation catching up with me. The whole thought of doing as much as I can while I still have the chance. By the way, I did graduate from high school. Classes are over too and now all I have to do is go back one more time to get my report card/yearbook. In the past month I also turned 18, attended a whole slew of parties, went to Whistler, got Serato Scratch Live for my DJing, competed for a chance at the World Hip Hop Championships and oh so much more. Yeah. Try to swallow all of that. I know I can't.

During the last couple days of school my art teacher handed back all my assignments. So I have whole gang of art to show you... I just have yet document it all on my computer. Until then... here's some other stuff I've done...

This is a comic I did for my school's annual "Writing Booklet". Basically, it chronicles the creative writing assignments by the students of the school's Writing course. I didn't want to do any more writing at the time, so I did a comic. Much more fun.

Here's my final submission for the Artist Apprenticeship Project! It was shown at an outdoor gallery and everything. I think I called it "Born A Naturalist", which was kind of a last-minute name, but it does pertain to the mix I made. I made a quick mix that was recorded on a cassette and played on repeat during the exhibition opening.

So anyways, I'll be sure to go back to postin' steady again. I mean, school's out, I have no job, and I have no travel plans at the moment. What else am I gonna do? :P

Haven't posted in a bit, and I feel like I need to give a little sum'n sum'n.

Here's a video of dance crew I'm apart of, Elktrik, performing at the Danceology prelims. It was held at Metrotown mall, and with the huge crowd it drew, things got hella hype. The stage was kind of baloney though...

(It's not my video, just so you know.)

<lj-embed id="8" />

We placed in the top 10, which means we're moving on to the Danceology finals. Wheeeeee!!!

I also forgot to mention that the Artist Apprenticeship Program installation showing was on Friday. My bad...

It turned out to be a great show though. I'm happy with how my project turned out, and we drew a pretty good crowd. We even got a little writeup in our local paper. I'll be back with pics too, I promise.

I uploaded another video on YouTube. One of my artistic pursuits IS movie making, jeese guys...

<lj-embed id="7" />

This one's a short film my friend and I made during term 2 of grade 11. It was a spontaneous idea and we kind of just ran with it. (Please don't take it too seriously, haha.)

What have I been listening to lately, you ask? I've been all about the beat tapes over the past couple weeks, especially those by Madlib, DJ Babu, Ayatollah and Oh No. I've also been going through Prefuse 73's new album, Everything She Touches Turns Ampexian. It's all fresh stuff, check up on it.

I'm almost compelled to go out one night and find the source of ribbets... just 'cause.

I also drew my right thumb for some reason.

Hope you all had a smashing Easter long weekend. Mine was definitely... uh... long. I guess I pretty much spent the whole time watching Wizards of Waverly Place and drawing. Productive weekend? I'd say so.

Here's something I've been working on in the sketchbook:

It's nowhere near done yet. I still have to finish the inks, maybe add a background, etc. I'm not sure if it necessitates colour though... I was thinking of adding some digital colour, but I'm also debating a straight greyscale picture.

Don't know where this guy came from either... I think I was imagining this vast canyon setting and some sort of showdown.

Now let's try something different!

We have a pop art assignment in art class and I decided to epitomize Jay Dee! Maybe epitomize isn't the best word... but you know what I mean. Honour... in an expressionistic way.

Anyway, I decided to employ stencil art to achieve that sharp, pop art look. This isn't the final product, of course, just a test on a stray piece of cardboard. We actually have to complete our paintings on a loose piece of canvas... should be fun. So don't go nowheres! There's more to be seen!

Crazy for Those Cupcakes Cuzzinnnn!!!

Seems like I have nothing but videos to dish off to you guys... Dun worry I'll have doodles and whatnot to share in a bit. I just made it out of a really rough patch in school, dance, and life in general. But the sun's finally out now for spring and thing's are lookin' up!

<lj-embed id="6" />

This is another video from our school's talent show that I just recently put up on YouTube. It's the other performance I was in on - a live performance of the SNL Digital Short/song by The Lonely Island. That's right, Lazy Sunday. It's hard to see in the video, but my friend is actually holding props up to coincide with the lyrics in the rap.

Check it out check it out check it out check it out.

Sauce Is My Bauce

If you've been wondering where I've been for the past four days I got your answer right here...

<lj-embed id="5" />

I think I mentioned this before... I was accepted into the SWEAT Program at the Art Institute of Vancouver. It lasted from Monday to Thursday this week and since I was apart of Digital Film Level 2 I got a film out of it in the end!

The assignment was to make a silent film around 2 minutes in length... I worked with four other guys to git 'er done. When it comes to the film itself I didn't really have any concept input, but all the camera work is me, and I handled a bit of the editing too. Enjoy!

P.S. The title of this post is the title of a song a student made at the SWEAT Program. I lol'd.

Wack is Wack

I left you you all hanging this Spring Break didn't I? My bad. I guess I was busy with some form of sickness during the first two days of the period, and later I did become involved with work experience, dance and some parties. There's no excuse though, really.

Hey, remember the talent show I was tellin' y'all about awhile back? Well I got around to posting one of the videos from said event on YouTube. It's the traditional "Grade 12 Performance" that I was in on. Every year at the school talent show a group of grade 12's put on a mock-style dance performance to popular tunes.

Please to be watching?

<lj-embed id="3" />

And since I've been on a bit of a YouTube video stint lately here's something else I came upon. Check this krizzle out! Prefuse 73! Ace fuh real.

<lj-embed id="4" />

You know what I watched today? The Wackness. I enjoyed it. Just thought I'd put that out there.

Put My Work In

So "WHO WATCHES THE WATCHMEN?" WEEK is over, seeing as the movie was on Friday. Sorry for missing Thursday. Like I said, my school's talent show was that day, and since then I've been just bouncin' from one thing to another. But I'm not leavin' you hangin' so here's Thursday's Minuteman:

Captain Metropolis. I always found him to be the most interesting of the Minutemen. How he was so hopelessly devoted to do good... It was tragic.

<s>Friday, 02/27/09 - Rorschach
Saturday, 02/28/09 - The Comedian
Sunday, 03/01/09 - Silk Spectre II
Monday, 03/02/09 - Nite Owl II
Tuesday, 03/03/09 - Dr. Manhattan
Wednesday, 03/04/09 - Ozymandias
Thursday, 03/05/09 - The Minutemen (Captain Metropolis)</s>

If you're wondering, I saw Watchmen on Saturday. I liked it, thought it was really good. I'm still trying to collect my thoughts on a lot of its aspects, but for the most part it was very enjoyable.

Here's what I did on Friday as apart of the Artist Apprenticeship Project:

We went out and did some Andy Goldsworthy-style art experimenting. I would've been able to do more... had I had more time and had it not been so damn cold.

But I'm particularly excited about what my dance crew received on Friday night...

My design made it on my crew's shirt! Can't wait to flash it during competitions.

Late.
